Cooties, Young Love, & School Lunches!






-Cooties-
What a week!
Vincent has been in school for a mere two weeks and it seems we have already been affected by all of those extra cooties!
Silas, Jude, and I caught something nasty. Silas seems to have gotten over it for the most part, while Jude and I are still feeling it. I'll tell you what, an ill Jude is no fun at all. My sweet little angel has been inconsolable several times a day and that boy can scream! He and I both had low fevers that fortunately only lasted 24 hours. Hopefully, we will be completely over it by tomorrow.







-Love Struck-
Vincent is still enjoying school. The weeks leading up to him starting, he'd had his heart set on finding a girlfriend. By day two he had found her. Her name is Shiann but he was calling her "Kimberly" for a while.(Kimberly is the Power Ranger that he has a crush on. heehee) One day this week when he got home, he was really mopey. I came to find that his sweet Shiann had rejected his marriage proposal. He looked so pitiful. He said, " I asked her, 'Am I not enough?'" How heartbreaking! My four year old is love struck. He has assured me that their relationship has since improved. :)

-School Lunch-
Previously, I mentioned how Vincent had not eaten the lunch that I made him on the first day of school. He'd told me that day that his teacher said that he wasn't allowed to eat it. I disregarded it as a fib to get him out of trouble. Well, come to find out, it was not a lie. His school does not allow the children to bring their own lunch without a doctor's note. I assume this is because of other children's possible allergies? I am on a mission this week to get a note because after just 9 days of eating what they prepare, his digestive system is completely different. I am confident that with a copy of the school menu, I won't have a problem getting his pediatrician to sign off on it.



-Upcoming-
This week I am looking forward to sharing some fun new recipes and some fun crafty things that I will be trying. It's these sorts of things that I look most forward to blogging about.

To begin with, here is a useful recycling tip!



If you've got children, you likely have plethora of these clippie hangers. I don't use them at all so they have been piling up and I was JUST about to just toss them all when I came across a great tip originally posted here.

Some of them you can just snap off (Use a towel to protect you hand from possible booboos), others require a tool to cut them with.



And now for a quick cooking tip:

We love eggs around here, especially fried! I will often use a biscuit cutter to mold the egg as it cooks (and of course you can buy a tool made specifically for this), but I stumbled across this awesome idea, originally posted here.

Why not use an edible mold that goes great with your egg?

I topped mine with diced tomatoes and served it with toasted whole wheat bread. So yummy!

Vincent's First day of Pre-K (Belated)





It's hard to believe how quickly our little boys are growing up. It seems like just yesterday we were brand new parents, bringing home our precious Vincent Kain. We were totally prepared to be parents...well, of a little girl anyway. For 22 weeks we had prepared for a daughter, thanks to the mistake of an ultrasound technician. Other than one mild postpartum meltdown, it was a remarkably easy adjustment.
Today, our now 4 and a half year old started Pre-K. He has been patiently crossing off the days on the calender leading up to his big day. When I woke him up this morning, he sat right up with that beautiful smile of his. Everyone else was sleeping, so we had a nice time getting ready.

We walked into his classroom that was full of loud little ones and emotional mommies and he found his desk. He sat down quietly and began to write his name in his new notebook. He looked very big next to his desk buddies. I snapped a few photos and he told me, "Mom, you can go now." I stole a quick kiss and found my way out.

I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon. Without Vincent, Silas is truly a different child. The house was calm. We just lay around doing nothing. I didn't even do any housework. Bliss, I tell you.
Unfortunately, it bit me in the rear end once Vincent came home.

When we picked him up, he was bright and cheery. He told us of his first day, the friends he'd made, the pictures he'd drawn. The second we got home, the spawn of Satan was unleashed.
I remember when I was very young, my sister would spend the weekends with her dad, who had no other children at the time. Needless to say, she was spoiled for the entire weekend. When she would return, she would be the queen of all brats. This is who Vincent reminded me of today.
I thought I had prepared myself for this, knowing that he would be getting up so much earlier than normal and not not being much of a 'napper'. Hopefully, he will learn to be.

I went to clean out his lunch box and found that not a single thing in it had been touched. This had me pretty aggravated.

(Natural peanut butter and honey on whole wheat, crab stick, slices of turkey and cheddar, whole grain club crackers, apples, cucumbers, choco goldfish, and apple sauce)

I try very hard to limit the amount of pre-made and processed foods that my family consumes. I spend extra money on groceries because of this. I have always known that I would prepare my boys' lunches, knowing that even though school lunches are supposed to be balanced, they aren't typically very healthy.



Apparently, Vincent wanted cafeteria chicken nuggets instead of what I sent with him (even though he picked out what he wanted me to pack and sat watching excitedly as I cut shapes into his cheese). I don't want the lunch that I send him to be an option along with the school's provided lunch. I want him to eat what I have prepared. I think I will be sending his teacher a note to have her enforce this. I hope to start preparing his lunch Bento-style, so that should make frozen chicken nuggets less appealing.

I hate dark chocolate, Caillou, and prejudice.
I am terrified of arachnids, mold, sprouting potatoes, flying, and opening cans of biscuits.


Regardless of all of the hair pulled, pounds gained, vocal chords strained, excrement cleaned, sleep lost, and romantic nights interrupted, I absolutely love being a mother above anything else on Earth.

I want to apologize with great empathy to my mother, who always requested so pleasantly for my four siblings and me to, "PLEASE! Let me potty in peace!"
